Dr. Ran He
Founder
Ran is a lawyer licensed in U.S. (New York, and California) and Canada (Ontario, British Columbia). With a comprehensive litigation background in both the United States and Canada, Ran brings a wealth of expertise to his practice areas, particularly in intellectual property and commercial disputes. Ran held a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from Nankai University, followed by a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a Postdoctoral Fellowship from John Hopkins University, School of Medicine and a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School.
In the legal domain, Ran has garnered extensive experience in commercial, financial and intellectual property disputes. Ran's commercial and financial litigation practice includes representing clients across diverse commercial disputes, encompassing financial fraud, commercial, security, shareholder, and real property matters. Ran’s proficiency in handling patent and trademark issues offers strategic advice to clients on the validity and infringement of patents and trademarks.

Ran provides strategy consultation to consulting firms, venture capital funds and start-ups, with a special focus on biotechnology and healthcare industry. Benefited from a multi-discipline and multi-country background, Ran provides clients with strategy advice that combines innovation, prudence and global perspective.

Ran is a co-founder of the ESL committee of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL). Ran is also a member of Advocates' Society, the New York Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the California Lawyers Association, the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Microbiology. Ran teaches at Osgoode Hall Law School and business schools in Asia.

Ruolan (Emily) Tang
Lawyer
Emily is a licensed attorney in California, Ontario, British Columbia and China, with extensive experience in litigation and non-litigation matters across the U.S., Canada, and China. She practiced in China for several years, focusing on litigation, and has a wealth of experience handling high-profile litigation and non-litigation cases. Since 2014, Emily has worked at a boutique litigation firm in China, where she led large-scale government investment projects and nationally recognized litigation cases. Emily holds a Bachelor of Laws from Zhejiang University and dual Master of Laws degrees from Emory University in the United States. She has also worked at a large U.S. law firm, serving globally renowned technology companies. Currently, Emily is responsible for the daily operations and management of the Vancouver office, and managing the cross-border matters.

Yanan (Leah) Li
Lawyer
Leah is a licensed lawyer in Ontario, Canada, and has passed the Chinese judicial examination. She has extensive experience in providing cross-border legal services related to China. Yanan graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws from East China University of Political Science and Law, as well as a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in Canada. Since 2017, Yanan worked in the legal department of a German-invested hospital in China, focusing on medical law services. After graduating in Canada, Yanan completed a summer internship at a Canadian intellectual property law firm and an articling position at a Canadian real estate law firm. Currently, Yanan is responsible for the daily management of litigation cases in Toronto at the firm.

Zheng (Sharon) Zhang
Articling Student (Intern Lawyer)
Sharon is an articling student (Intern Lawyer) and is expected to be called to the Ontario bar in 2025. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from York University and a Juris Doctor from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. During law school, she focused on litigation and dispute resolution and represented her school in the national negotiation competition. Additionally, Zheng has passed the CFA Level 1 exam. Currently, she primarily participates in the daily work of litigation cases in Toronto.

Wenrui (Paula) Qi

Paula interned at THC Lawyers as a 2024 Summer Student and will return to the firm as an Articling Student after she obtains her JD from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2025.
During law school, Paula volunteered with the Community & Legal Aid Services Programme helping marginalized community with criminal charges. Paula also worked as a research assistant with a professor at Osgoode for the release of a textbook. She has extensive mooting experience and will represent Osgoode in the 2025 Walsh Family Law Moot.
Prior to law school, Paula gained years of experience working in the legal field in commercial and lending transactions. She is fluent in English, Mandarin and Spanish.
In her spare time, Paula enjoys travelling, trying new restaurants with friends, and improving her tennis swings.

Hanye Chen

At Western Law, Hanye has cultivated a passion for advocacy and litigation through participation in various moots, including representing the school in the Walsh Family Law Moot competition. In the last year of Hanye’s law school, she joined Community Legal Services at Western Law where she assisted people in London low-income community.

Prior to law school, Hanye earned her bachelor’s degree with a double major in Film Studies and French, along with a minor in Journalism, Media, & Public Discourse, from Mount Holyoke College in the U.S. She also broadened her international perspective through an academic exchange in France. Having lived in China, the U.S., and Canada, she brings a unique multicultural perspective to her legal practice.

Yingjun graduated from Peking University Law School with a Bachelor of Law and holds a Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University Law Center. She honed her litigation and arbitration knowledge during law school by interning at a top cross-border disputes team in Beijing. She also gained transactional exposure in both local and international law firms coping with corporate law, capital market, and anti-trust law issues.

Rey holds an LL.M. from the University of Edinburgh and an MBA from the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University. She served as in-house legal counsel at the headquarters of a major nationwide enterprise in China. As a licensed attorney in China, she has delivered a broad range of legal services, including specialized legal advice, and civil and commercial litigation, to state-owned enterprises, listed companies, foreign-invested firms, and private businesses. During her MBA, she gained expertise in strategic planning and problem-solving through consulting and simulation projects.

Qiyi is a JD candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School and holds double bachelor’s degrees in Software Engineering and Law from Sichuan University. With a solid academic foundation and international experience, she brings a multidisciplinary approach to legal problem-solving. During law school, she represents 1Ls as part of the Chinese Law Students Association and is actively involved with the IP Innovation Clinic, where she assists clients with prior art and trademark research.
​Before entering law school, Qiyi contributed to multiple legal research projects at the national level in China, including ministerial research on antitrust regulation in the digital era and intellectual property policy development. Her experience spans legal research, AI innovation and software product management.
